The purpose of the Governor Games is to provide Louisianans with wholesome avenues for positive personal development through sports and physical activity. The Governor’s Games recognize athletes’ dedication and achievement and strives to offer all citizens the opportunity to participate. More than 15,000 people from all of 64 parishes participate yearly in the Governor’s Games events. As the founder of Lighten Up Louisiana, the Governor Games continues to lead the way in encouraging Louisianans to become healthier through physical activity and diet.

The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports was established in 1992 to improve the health of, and increase physical activity among, Michigan residents. The Michigan Fitness Foundation was created in 1994 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity foundation to expedite Governor's Council policies and programs and provide a broader funding base to pursue its mission of Getting Michigan Moving. Wisconsin Governor's Council on Physical Fitness
Wisconsin Partnership for Activity and Nutrition (WI PAN). The Wisconsin Nutrition and Physical Activity Workgroup was formed in 1999 to discuss strategies that could be implemented to address the alarming increase in childhood overweight. In September 2005 the group changed their name to the Wisconsin Partnership for Activity and Nutrition to better reflect their mission. The membership has reached over 100 persons representing a diverse group of organizations and communities.
In December 2003, the membership selected an organization structure that includes six subcommittees: environmental, school-based, healthcare, families and communities, business and industry and surveillance. The partnership and its subcommittees are the main planning vehicle for the development of the Nutrition and Physical Activity state plan. As the partnership has evolved, its mission has changed as well. The draft mission is to provide state leadership for nutrition and physical activity across the lifecycle.
